Your profile

Some of the information you can easily change

The top part of the Profile screen allows you to change your e-mail address and your password. You would get any confirmation of changes via an e-mail.
However, there are settings you can easily change at any time.

Tell as much or as little as you want

Once defined, your Signature appears at the end of each of your posts, unless you choose not to.
You can include the BB codes in your signature, but you need to type them in manually
When composing a new message, you can untick the box.

Smilies, HTML and BB codes are in the Having a word page.

You can play with those settings until you're happy

Default settings

The preferences set by default have been chosen to make your bulletin board life easier. Here are a few interesting settings:

  • Always show my E-mail address: This is set as No, to protect you from unwanted e-mails. If you want your address to be seen, tick Yes and other readers will be able to contact you by E-mail.

  • Hide your online status: when you log on, your name appears on the Index page in the format . However, you might prefer not to appear online. In this case, tick Yes and your presence will be hidden.

Who knows who could be the Hidden member here?

  • Notice of replies: if you choose Yes, you will receive an E-mail each time someone answers a chosen topic. For more details, see Watching a topic.

  • Private Message settings: you set here the way you like to be told about received Private messages. If you keep these default settings, you will be notified as described in When receiving a message.
  • BBCode / HTML / Smilies: all these options are enabled by default. To learn more about the BBCode, click on the link provided in the Options table, displayed within a New Message window or your Profile Information update.
  • Displays: you can't change the display language for the board. You can choose to use the subSilver style instead of the LSC style, but many links will not be available any longer.

  • British Summer Time is GMT+1. You need to change this setting yourself.
Just click on the drop-down menu and choose GMT + 1 Hour.
For more details, a topic was posted on the Announcements forum on the 29th March.
  • Finally, the date display: you can change the date display by following the instructions provided in the link:
Just one tip: don't go there!
Personally, I would leave it well alone. Still, if you do want to have a play with the settings, see this page: http://us2.php.net/date. Good luck!
