Shopsdam Road development
The club has been approached by a developer to advise us that he will shortly be submitting a planning application with regard to development of Shopsdam Road. He has made an offer for Angela Blayden’s house (the one nearest the sea) with a view to build 3 houses with drives and garages.
At this point, the club knows no more than that, but the Flag Officers have been invited by the developer to a meeting next week to discuss their plans, prior to submission.
We have already made it clear to the developer that all members of the club have the right to unfettered access on Shopsdam Road. Further, we have advised him that, in the event of any development going ahead, we would write to the estate agent to ensure that any prospective purchaser is fully aware of the both the legal situation regarding access and the club’s general mode of operation before purchase.
The Flag Officers and Committee are clearly aware of the impact any development might have on Shopsdam Road and the club in particular, and will do everything possible to reduce or eliminate any negative impact.
We are not in a position to supply any further information at this time. Feel free to post any comments in topic on the General forum, but please be aware that the Bulletin Board is in the public domain, and any comments posted are viewable by both club members and external agencies.

The first series of the season has come to an end on Sunday 22nd, with clear-cut results from an early date. In the fast fleet, Ian Beale and Leon Halliwell in their RS400 have dominated the races, despite some strong competition from Mike and Di Croker's Laser >>.
In the slow fleet, Alan Simmons and David Trout battled on for the series but David had to concede that Alan and his Streaker got the better of him, this time. A great big well done to all participants who braved the chilly waters to enjoy this very pleasant early season series.
The results of the series using the LCF (Lancing Correction Factor) are available on the Results 2007 page. If you'd like to compare the results using LCF with results using PY numbers, read Mike Croker's post on the forum.
The summary of LCF calculations (including the handicaps table) has been adjusted to follow the 2007 PY updates. See the Lancing Correction Factor page for further details.

New engine
The new 4-stroke engine for the rescue boat is with Aquatech and is due to be fitted and used for the 29th April.
Aquatech have agreed to give us a demonstration of its use for anyone who's interested.
It will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday 28th April at the club.
All members likely to do a rescue duty in the course of the year could benefit from this induction demo. We often sustain damage to the RIBs and engines due to ignorance, rather than negligence. If as many as possible know how to look after the engines properly, they'll last longer. See you there!
UPDATE The new engine has not materialised yet, Aquatech let us know on Saturday that there were "bits missing". The demo was postponed to a later date. It is a bit of a setback, but I'd rather have a engine arriving late, with all its "bits", than arriving on time with "bits missing". Let's hope those bits won't take too long to be localised and fitted! |
