Sailing news
Sailing events to look forward to in the next few weeks:
The second day of the A&O Regatta will take place tomorrow, Monday 28th August. The Derek Atkins Trophy and Owen Memorial Shield is a Fast/Slow handicap mini-series over the August Bank holiday. It comprises a variety of short courses, with 3 races per day: 1 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon on the Sunday and Monday. The course will be a Triangle-Sausage in the morning, and a trapezoid with average lap time in the afternoon. Can anyone beat Gary Austin in the fast fleet?
The last race in the Wednesday evening series on 16th August started at 6.30p.m. instead of 7p.m. Last Wednesday, the winner wasn't sailing his usual boat, as it was Ian Beale on a Supernova! Well done Ian and thank you to Alan for lending his boat. Complete results for the entire series have just been published by our results person, fresh back from the Laser>> Europeans. Check them out! The last race was followed by a very successful barbecue, with Dave Carter as chef.
With a chance for everyone and sometimes unexpected results, stunning sunsets and relaxing evenings, the Wednesday series has a special place in our sailing calendar. Revisit a few evenings of this year in the photo-gallery of the series, available on the Galleries page.
Finally, on Saturday 2nd September, we might be lucky enough to see younger members racing against each other in the Youth Regatta. Over the last few years, this event has been blown off with spectacular wind speeds, quite unsuitable for youth helms. Let's hope this year will be OK...

Training news
There have been quite a few training events organised over the last few months, with mixed fortunes. A few sessions have been blown off and one was cancelled for lack of wind! To read more about it, see the Training page. |

Impressive results for Kate Fitzsimmons: she is the new European champion crew in a Laser>>. The Europeans finished on Friday at Teign Corinthian and Kate was sailing with Irish helm Connor Byrne. To see Kate in action, visit the photo gallery of the event, on the Fotoboat website. You will also see pictures of Mike and Di Croker, who obtained a very respectable 5th place overall. Well done everyone for taking part and congratulations to the winners! Read all about it in the Yachts&Yachting report of the event.
