Poster for Hog Roast - 4th AugustHog Roast

That's it, the hog got roasted and everyone had a great time, except the pig, of course...
To avoid long cooking times and traumatised children ("Look darling, it's Babe on the barbie!"), Yvonne and Dave Greenfield and Alison and Chris Halliwell were very wise; they cooked sausages and pork chops, plus a few burgers. Between them, they also produced a mouth-watering array of salads and yummy desserts. Before the main course, we had generous portions of garlic bread served by two young ladies (The Future of the Club) who kept a close eye on how many slices each of us were having. There's no fooling them!
During the day, a few members made the most of the good weather with an impromptu sailing afternoon. We had 2 Contenders, 1 Topper and a Laser out, plus a few sea canoes and many people coming to welcome the sunshine. It feels so good to be on the water in the summertime.

Don't forget our next two events: last of the Wednesday series barbecue on 22nd August and the BIG EVENT, the Beer Festival on the 1st September.

Sun and wind for the Summer Regatta this yearSummer Regatta and Laser>> Open

With dreadful weather and torrential rain in the week leading to the Summer Regatta, it was no surprise to see only a handful of sailors turning up on Saturday 21st July. Nigel Skudder and Keith Hills from Starcross SC, newly titled Worlds champions in the Laser>> class were with us for their yearly visit and, after a two-day battle with Di and Mike Croker from Lancing SC, managed to win the Open meeting. They were joined on the water by a small but competitive fleet of these symmetric fast dinghies, as well as the rest of the Summer Regatta intake.
Sunday was a little less windy and a little more attended, with a revived medium fleet and a handful of Toppers. All entry proceeds are donated to the RNLI. Results are available on the results page on this site.
You can view a photo-gallery of the event in our Galleries page and admire the sunshine on the sea. Many thanks to Natalie Beale for her lovely images.

Canteen moan

Quick note from the canteen:

  • Please could you make sure you pay your tab at the end of a sailing day. It is always difficult for people on duty to start chasing reluctant payers through the compounds and half-way up the changing rooms.
  • Today, the microwave oven looked like Omaha Beach after D-Day. If you warm up food in it, could you please ensure the oven is clean after use?
  • THANK YOU!
