ANCHORLINE

The next issue of Anchorline, our newsletter, will be coming to you with the membership renewal at the start of February. Everyone's welcome to send a contribution (article, review, photos...) but the deadline is coming soon! Please email anchorline@lancingsc.org.uk with your contribution BEFORE SATURDAY 15th JANUARY at the latest. Thank you!

 New little member

On the LSC forum, Jim Powell tells us how proud a father he is:

"I would like to introduce the newest member of 2011.
Ila Jane Powell
She was born at 7:30am on 6-1-11, weighing 6lb 5oz and a half.
Everyone healthy and happy. "

All our congratulations to Jim and Hannah. Leave a comment of the dedicated thread on the forum, as some of our members have already done. Just one question: how long do you think Jim is going to wait until he takes Ila on his Laser?

Sunday lunch and presentation by Tony White

Tony and Sam on the start line

We are planning a Sunday lunch on 16th January, followed by a talk from Tony White about his Round Britain and Ireland race. If you have read the latest issue of Anchorline, you know the end of the story but this time, it's all live and Technicolor! Worth a visit, I guarantee...

Before this, we will serve the usual 3-course meal with coffee for £7.50 per person. 12noon for 12.30 and Don says the bar will be open.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you would like to come, how many people and any food requirements (vegetarian, food allergies, etc.).

Answer on the forum thread or on the Facebook page for this event, or contact either Mark or Isabelle on 01273 703512.

See you all there!

 Annual Dinner dance and prizegiving

Poster for Dinner & dance 2011

Our annual dinner, dance and prizegiving will happen on Saturday 12th February at the Windsor Hotel in Worthing. Please choose your menu in the .pdf file downloadable here.

John Taylor, Karen McGrath and Isabelle are here to answer your questions. With good food, good company, a DJ playing decent (well... decent in my opinion!) music, plus loads of people getting prizes for their sailing efforts in 2010, it should be a good night out!

The email address is dinnerdance@lancingsc.org.uk. You can book a place on the forum on the dedicated forum thread or answer on the Facebook page for this event.

Who is doing what this year

Following the AGM in November, the main committee welcomes new faces and waves goodbye to some people who have helped a lot during the years: John Taylor is our new Commodore with Karen McGrath as Vice-Commodore. Jerry Hone leaves the membership secretary job in Julian Wilkins's capable hands, after spending many hours sorting out the membership data.

In the sailing committee, the average age has dipped severely with the arrival of two lovely young ladies: Georgi Ridler has fallen in love with her Contender and will be looking after the interests of the fast fleet as Fast Fleet captain. Elodie Jackson, who has been in a Topper for half of her life, will be representing the Topper fleet, with Georgi's help. Together, they have also accepted to fulfill the role of Youth coordinator. With an average age of 16 between them, they are more than qualified to know what younger members are interested in!

The social committee still needs some structure this year. Find out who's doing what in our Committees 2011 page.

All the Toppers say thank you

Nick taking part in the Topper open in 2010

After 22 years of presence in the sailing committee, Nick Muggridge has decided to look after his goldfish and grandchild rather than the LSC Topper fleet. Over the years, he has worked relentlessly for the club, helping new helms, giving tips to Topper sailors (even if it cost him a victory once or twice), taking helms to open events, organising the Topper open, advertising events, writing articles for the sailing press, etc. etc.

In the committee, Nick is an expert on wacky ideas, all beautifully presented in an impeccable English. On the water, he is THE Topper to beat for all other competitors and welcomes the banter that goes with it. The season 2011 will be no different because, even if he's leaving the sailing committee, he's not quitting Toppers! A great big thank you to Nick from all Topper sailors.

 Last day of the season

Jerry won the series in style

With a brisk cold southerly wind, bringing long chilly waves to the beach, there was no much enthusiasm to go sailing for the last day of the season. The Winter series results stand as they were before Christmas, with Jerry dominating the series in style as he discarded first places. Behind him, it was a battle between Gary and David Trout. With Gary away for the last day, David could have taken the second place off our sailing secretary but, as the last day wasn't a race, he remains third.

With a total of 36 boats taking part in this last series of 2010 and only one day lost to the weather - the last day - this has been a very successful way to finish off the year. All up-to-date results are published on this site together with all the results for the entire year.

Children's Christmas party was good fun

Photos from Christmas party 2010

"HO-HO-HO!" said Santa when he came in the clubhouse on 12th December. A group of happy people welcomed the visitor and shared his presents. It was party games, face painting, dancing and music and food and plenty of good fun for the children.
Many thanks to everyone who has sent photos of the event. See the photo-gallery of the day on this site.
