Jerry Hone wrote in the LSC forum on 7th April 2007: "The club has been approached by a developer to advise us that he will shortly be submitting a planning application with regard to development of Shopsdam Road. He has made an offer for Angela Blayden’s house (the one nearest the sea) with a view to build 3 houses with drives and garages."
UPDATE Planning application has been submitted mid-May and the relevant documents are available to download on the architect's website: www.urbanview.co.uk/projects/1117-Lancing/Proposals. Please note that all documents are in .pdf format and some are quite large (in excess of 9Mb). A printout of the plans will be displayed in the clubhouse in due course.

| Training news
As last year, our training officer has planned a series of training events, with the first taking place on Friday 18th May. Unfortunately, this session has to be cancelled, due to unforeseen circumstances. The weather forecast isn't very good either, so we're not missing much sailing.
Other training events will happen later in the year. - Friday nights open coaching sessions on the water from 6pm on:
- Saturday racing techniques sessions from 10am to 4pm on:
There will be another 3 days of specific training for Lasers, Toppers and asymmetric boats, but these dates have yet to be confirmed.
More details about training sessions in the Training page on this site.

| Sailing news
It's been a lively May Bank Holiday this year, with only one race sailed out of four.
At 11am on Sunday morning, the wind vane was showing a respectable WSW top 4, with interesting waves building up. Nevertheless, many boats took to the water and waited for the start. A glitch with the rescue boat delayed the start for a bit, which allowed the more cautious members of the fleet to go back to the beach early. The Topper fleet had decided even before the start that a rest in a warm clubhouse or a play on the waves was the order of the day.
Mid-race, the wind reached a challenging force 6 and many people decided to head off for an early lunch. The rest of the fleet battled through the waves to finish the race. Well done to all taking part, and all finishing.
Unfortunately, the adverse weather conditions took their toll and Jerry's Contender top mast snapped off, tearing the sail and sapping the helm's energy.
At the end of the morning race, even the hardened heavy weather racers had packed up their boats, thinking enough was enough. That told to Race Officer Colin Norris and OOD Ali Smith to cancel the afternoon race, say goodbye to everyone and hope for milder weather in the morning.
Later on, it started to rain...
Monday was probably windier and definitely wetter than Sunday. Excepted the duty teams, all present and accounted for at half nine, not many sailors turned up at the club. Not even to take part in that national pastime: "Moan about the Bank Holiday weather".
Race Officer Mark Jackson soon realised the wind was quite strong, when he struggled to catch his favourite hat on the beach. After a quick survey, he decided to call it a day. At that time, the wind reached a high of 42.2 knts on the beach. Bit too much for a dinghy.

Wednesday 9th May is the first day of the Wednesday evening series, which entertain us every year with a rich collection of sunsets and suddenly dropping sea breezes. As usual, you can order your Fish&Chips or pizza before the race and enjoy a well-earned dinner analysing the race or propping the bar. A quick visit to the 2006 photo gallery will give you an idea.
