Commodore's Cup

With force 6 winds, very high tide and massive waves, it didn't take much deliberation from the race team to cancel the last Sunday of the Commodore's Cup. The full results are detailed in our Results page.
In the Fast fleet, Ian Beale and Leon Halliwell were unstoppable on their RS400, bagging yet another series this year. At this rate, Ian will ask Leon to find a local job next year and stay in the area during the sailing season!
In second and third places, the Laser>>s had a good battle with Mike and Di Croker staying consistently just ahead of Roger Jamieson and Kate Fitzsimmons. In the end, the National champions 2007 got the better on the European champ crew 2006. Got to be the helm...

In the Laser fleet, Roger Dowty and Paul Fewster were neck in neck and Paul could have got the upper hand on Roger if he hadn't missed a couple of Sundays. As it is, Roger dominated the Lasers and won his first series this year. He's already looking forward to the Winter series, I bet.

In the Topper fleet, experience prevailed and Nick Muggridge added yet another series to the impressive list of victories he has gained this year. Angela Davey was very close on many occasions but had to settle for second. With a bit of luck, the winter series will bless us with mild temperatures and lighter winds, and encourage the Topper youths to try and beat those two. Good luck to them and well done to all participants in the Commodore's Cup 07.

Topper league at the end of the Commodore's Cup

The Topper league has come to the cut-off point at the end of the Commodore's Cup, to allow the results to be compiled well in time for the prize-giving. This year, the overall winner of the Topper League is our esteemed Topper captain, Nick Muggridge. Not only is he an excellent sailor, but he tends to be the only one who's certain of the course, so other Toppers follow him faithfully. Seriously, both Nick and Angela, who obtains second place, have consistently sailed very well this season and are now enjoying the success. Well done to you two and to Jennifer Austin who gets 3rd place.

The eagerly-disputed Topper Novice trophy goes to Katie Hedgecock this year. Katie has improved tremendously since last year and the trophy is a fair reward for an excellent season. In second place, Elodie Jackson has given her a good run for her money. Congratulations to both girls and to all participants.

The Topper League is the only league at Lancing Sailing Club and it is regularly compiled and updated by Nick Muggridge. Although the 2007 results are published, he will keep the League running throughout the winter series on an informal basis.

Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night this year will happen on Saturday 3rd November. The event is due to start at 6pm with a Guy competition open to everyone, regardless of age. The bar will be open and we'll be serving hot food too! A flyer with all the details is on its way to you in the post, along with other documents. If you're coming, it would be helpful if you dropped a note on the forum so the canteen can cater for all of us.

Thank you, see you there and wrap up warm.

 Dinner and Dance

Poster for the Dinner and Dance 2007You might have seen the posters around the club: it's Dinner and Dance time again! Bob Aldridge and Trevor Barling are organising this yearly event. This time, we're NOT going to the Beach Hotel but next door to it, in the Burlington. After the meal and the prizegiving, there will be a DJ until 1am and free entrance to the nightclub until 3am. It's going to be hard to get sailing in the morning...

A temporary glitch prevented the booking forms from being included in the most recent AnchorLine but they have been posted to you this week. If you want to book a place right now, you can view the menu choices and download a form from the forum. For any other details, call Bob Aldridge on 01273 885191 or e-mail him at:

 Bring back the silverware

Trophy at the Dinner and dance 2006In those few pre-Dinner and Dance weeks, it's time to think about getting the polish out and give a good shine to the silver trophies. Andy Carter is gathering all trophies at the club so he can get them engraved in time for the prize-giving on the 17th November. So, set up a reminder on your PDA (for the techies out there) or tie a knot in your handkerchief (low-tech approach, popular in France) but please bring them back. Many thanks!

Happy days

Outside the church after the ceremony, confetti Karen and JohnKaren Littlejohn and John McGrath swapped salty water for holy water on Saturday 27th October in the New Life Church in Durrington, Worthing. Surrounded by their family and their friends, pastor Graham Jefferson married them (yes, they "tied the knot," haha...). Sam and Jeremy were giving Karen away and their response to "Who gives this woman away?" was a resounding "WE DO!" in chorus which made the whole congregation laugh.

After the ceremony, all the guests went to the reception where they were treated to a tasty buffet and plenty of dancing. Jeremy, our star dancer, as well as Sam, Becky and Hannah enjoyed the event thoroughly, not forgetting Karen's mum Yvonne and the rest of the families and friends. Karen and John never stopped grinning from the moment Karen stepped in the church to the time we said goodbye.

It was a great day for all and a day never-to-be-forgotten for Karen and John. Our most sincere congratulations. xxx
