In 2004, the Environment Agency carried out substantial works on the coastal sea defences. The old wooden groynes were replaced with rock groynes and the beach was reshaped. The works outside the club took place in June and July 2004, disturbing the sailing calendar. After having cancelled the some races and subsequently being informed that sailing was possible after all, the committee created a new series baptised "Rock Groynes".
